Digital Cameras

Written by Infomaniac on April 26th, 2009

‘Ok, hold that pose! Ah perfect, I can’t wait to see how that picture turns out’… This was how conversations about photographs were held until a few years back. Nowadays it sounds a little bit different as it goes ‘Ok, hold that pose! Ah perfect, what do you think? Do you want me to delete this and get another one?’ So what brought about the change in the conversations as mentioned above? A handy invention called digital cameras.

Digital cameras have been a boon to all those interested in photography, and even for those who aren’t. All that is required to use a digital camera is a memory card and a cable to upload it onto a computer, and a photographer is born. You can take more than five hundred pictures, depending on the available memory on the card, which means even if you make a mistake, you could probably take three versions of the same picture, making errors pretty much irrelevant. Digital cameras have become an everyday part of life for almost everyone today, and it is not uncommon to hear someone say ‘Do you want to see pictures of the trip I took last week? The place was gorgeous…’ and pull out a digital camera from their bag.

The presence of digital cameras has unfortunately meant that professional photographer’s services are not needed as much as they were before. In the early days of photography, a professional would be hired for any major event – a wedding, christening, engagement, or even a party. But now because almost everyone owns a digital camera, and because it is so easy to use, many people ask friends and family to step into the shoes of a photographer for the day. After all, it is much cheaper than hiring a professional and the photographs turn out more realistic and candid than they would with a professional photographer. Also because photographs taken in digital cameras need not be printed out, small time businesses that do printing have been hit hard. Photographs from a digital camera can be directly stored in the computer, and unless proper photographs are needed they can be printed directly from the computer itself, so the need to visit a shop for printing out photographs is pretty rare.

Some digital cameras come with added enhancements to them. There are those that can record videos, and those that allow the photograph to be edited on the camera itself. These little things add to the variety of things that can be done on digital cameras. All in all, digital cameras are the way of the future, so go ahead…experiment with one!
